Aeration That Actually Makes a Difference
Charlotte’s clay soil fights against your lawn every day. Professional core aeration breaks through compaction to let air, water, and nutrients reach the roots where they belong.

Compacted Soil Suffocates Your Lawn
Charlotte’s heavy clay soil naturally compacts over time, especially with foot traffic, mowing, and summer heat stress. When soil becomes compacted, it creates a barrier that prevents water, air, and nutrients from reaching the root zone where your grass needs them most.
Water pooling on the surface instead of soaking in
Shallow root systems that cannot survive heat or drought
Thin, patchy turf that never seems to thicken up
Fertilizer and treatments that fail to deliver results
Lawns that decline year after year despite your efforts
Double-Pass Aeration for Maximum Results
FineTurf uses professional core aeration equipment to remove small plugs of soil from your lawn, creating channels for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone. We do not stop at a single pass. We double-pass every lawn, with extra attention to high-traffic areas and spots bordering driveways, sidewalks, and streets where compaction is most severe.
Double-pass aeration for twice the soil penetration
Extra focus on high-traffic and edge areas
Timed perfectly to your grass type's active growth period
Plugs break down naturally, returning nutrients to soil
Ideal preparation for overseeding and lime applications

Timing Is Everything
The best time to aerate depends on your grass type. We schedule aeration during your lawn’s peak growth period so it can recover quickly and take full advantage of the improved soil conditions.
Tall Fescue Lawns
Best Time: September - October
Fall aeration allows fescue to recover before winter dormancy and green up faster in spring. Temperatures are cooling but soil is still warm, perfect for root growth and seed germination if overseeding.
Bermuda and Zoysia Lawns
Best Time: May - June
Warm-season grasses should be aerated when the grass is beginning its transition out of dormancy through the growing season and actively growing. This timing allows rapid recovery and maximum benefit from improved soil conditions during summer growth.

Aeration Questions Answered
When is the best time to aerate my lawn in Charlotte?
The ideal timing depends on your grass type. For tall fescue lawns, which are most common in Charlotte, fall (September through October) is the best time to aerate. The grass is actively growing, temperatures are cooling, and the lawn has time to recover before winter. For warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia, late spring through summer (May through June) is optimal, when the grass is fully green and growing vigorously.
How often should I aerate my lawn?
Most Charlotte lawns benefit from annual aeration due to our heavy clay soil. Your FineTurf technician will assess your specific soil conditions, but we recommend annual aeration for optimal results.
What should I do after aeration?
Leave the soil plugs on your lawn. They will break down within a few weeks and return nutrients to the soil. Water your lawn lightly after aeration to help the soil absorb moisture through the new channels. This is also an excellent time for overseeding or lime application, as seeds and amendments can reach the soil more easily through the aeration holes. Avoid heavy traffic on freshly aerated lawns for 24 to 48 hours.
Ready to Break Through Compacted Soil?
Give your lawn room to breathe. Professional double-pass aeration helps every treatment work harder and every drop of water reach deeper.
